sirubari-village-home-stay-trekVillage tourism, a recent innovation, is successfully demonstrated at Sirubari in Syangja a half day s distance from Pokhara. It is a three hour walk from the road-head just 30 k.m. from Pokhara. A management committee takes responsibility for visitors, their welcome, accommodation, sightseeing and guiding. The village consists of 60 households of which many are offering guest accommodation. It is a very neat and clean village; the accommodation is simple, but comfortable, with good bedding, as well as clean toilet facilities. Meals of daily fresh food are eaten with the family, and each evening there is entertainment provided by the community, which is usually Gurung dancing and singing. It has a vibrant Gurung culture, and they are a mixture of Buddhist, Hindu or Shaman. The region abounds with flora and fauna, with two hills nearby providing stunning views of Nepal s western Himalayas. Trails and steps are formed and paved, and many shrines and pilgrimage sites dot the landscape.

The season is September to June, and while staying there visitors can visit cottage industries such as traditional handicrafts and paper making; and a plant nursery covering 380 hectares of flora, including one million trees and plants. There are two small lakes nearby and bird watching and wildlife observation are possible. Sirubari won the PATA Gold Award 2001 in the Heritage & Culture – Heritage Category. Accessible from Kathmandu and Pokhara, there is a one day walk to the model tourism village. Village treks can be undertaken while experiencing village and rural life, as well as visiting the majestic hill-top palace of Gorkha Bazaar. Accommodation is in individual guestrooms with host families, or in between villages, in tents. During trekking meals are provided by professional teams, and in the villages visitors can try a delicious, hygienically prepared Nepali Daal bhaat consisting of locally produced rice, lentils and garden fresh organically grown vegetables.

The guestrooms are simple, but clean and cosy, with latrines available and a water tap close by. (Electricity, hot showers and separate bathrooms are not available so far). In the mid-west of Nepal in the Syangja District, another model tourism village project is underway. This is an agricultural and animal husbandry based community with no other income source; the intention is to carry out infrastructure development, heritage conservation and renovation, plus training and development of the villagers in the region. Located to the north east are Dahare Deurali, a famous religious site, and a beautiful location for viewing Himalayan peaks like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchare. It is at an altitude of 3,900 feet with a population of more than 6,500 people in the village and surrounding area. Sirubari is without one of the most attractive village in Nepal.

The village is neat and clean very colourful and warm, while the people are friendly, well educated and are enthusiastic about tourism. Sirubari is a compact farming community village. The Unique attraction of Sirubari is the fact that is the model for a growing new trend in tourism in Nepal – a trend takes the visitor within. For the adventurous, Nepal has been synonymous with trekking, mountaineering expeditions, jungle safaris, and river rafting. For those seeking spirituality there has always been the people and the culture. Sirubari, a village in Syangja district southwest a short drive from Pokhara, followed by a comfortable walk. The village is on a south facing slope at 1,700m above seeing label. The climate is ideal at all times of the year with no show ever falling in the village itself. However, the ideal time to visit between September to June, the houses are mostly built from the local materials and are well constructed and comfortable.

The overwhelming impression of the village is one of the odder and classiness but with a warm and welcoming feel to it. Foot trails though the villages are all stone paved. The villagers love for flowers is shown in an all year around riot of colours. Being oh the southern slopes of the ridge the village enjoying long sunny day and is ideal for agriculture. In may 2001. Sirubari in conjunction with the Nepal tourism board was awarded the PATA Gold award in recognition of its efforts to preserve the culture and heritage of Nepali total life.

Details Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu meet our staff and transfer to Hotel.
On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport you will be received by BUNA staff and transfer you to the Hotel, our guide will give you a brief orientation of the Hotel, Kathmandu, Trekking, do’s and don’t and other related information that you might require while in Nepal.

Day 02: Half day guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu.
After your first night in Kathmandu, you will be well informed on arrival about the time for your half day guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at places of interest.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara 950m 5-6 hours journey 200 k.m. Early breakfasts, then travel by air or a Deluxe Coach to Pokhara on the busy scenic highway. This is an interesting drive through the foothills of the Himalaya. The road has been greatly improved in recent years. On reaching Pokhara transfer to Hotel for the overnight stop by the lake Phewa with time for a short walk around.

Day 04: Pokhara to Sirubari 2-3 hrs journey.
Drive from Pokhara to Sirubarivis Bhatkhola, Darua, lunch and welcome ceremony at Sirubari. Interact with home stay, family dinner with home stay family. 3-4 hrs drive from Pokhara to Shirubari and stay in Shirubari at home.

Day 05: At Sirubari Village.
Tour and visit to Panchumul high school. Lunch back with families at home stay and interact with home stay families and watch a color show. And home stay in Sirubari.

Day 06: At Sirubari. Morning hike to Midian Kharka and Thumro observe sunrise view.
Lunch with families at homes stay, visit village gompa followed by culture program, dinner with families at home stay.

Day 07: Depart for Pokhara and fly back to Kathmandu.
From Sirubari drive to Pokhara with a farewell at village gompa, depart for Pokhara via Karkenetta, Seti Doban and Naudada lunch on route, afternoon flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

Day 08: Free day at leisure in Kathmandu.
A free day in Kathmandu, please inform our staff if you would like to go on another short tour in and around Kathmandu Valley or for scenic mountain flight.

Day 09: Transfer to Airport for International departure.
Today as per your international flight time, keep your confirmed air ticket, and your passport handy. BUNA staff will transfer you to the airport for your final departure from this amazing country, Nepal.
